Young people today spend lots of their free time watching films or series on streaming services like Netflix and HBO. New technology and access to these forms of entertainment make it easy for teenagers to follow the latest shows and talk about it with their friends. But more traditional ways of spending their free time are still popular. Most teenagers agree that there’s no better place to meet up with friends than at the cinema. And, believe it or not, curling up to a good book is still appreciated by some kids today.
As a means of improving their written expression in English class, the students of 3 ESO were asked to write a critical review on a film, series or book, a skill that they need to perfect especially for upcoming English language certification exams. They not only had to write a brief summary of the plot, but they had to analyze the characters and setting as well. And most importantly, they had to give a personal evaluation of the work, taking on the role of a film or book critic.
Adding to the assignment was the creation of an attractive poster of the work to share with the other students and decorate the classroom. The class demonstrated a diverse array of tastes from young adult romance novels to cartoon feature films to series of suspense. The students really got involved in the assignment and showed how completing writing in English can be fun especially if it involves their interests. Vamos a escribir una reseña
Los jóvenes hoy en día pasan un gran parte de su tiempo libre viendo películas o series en plataformas de streaming como Netflix y HBO. La nueva tecnología y el acceso a estas formas de entretenimiento facilitan que los adolescentes sigan los últimos programas y hablen de ellos con sus amigos. Pero las formas más tradicionales de pasar su tiempo libre siguen siendo populares. La mayoría de los adolescentes están de acuerdo en que no hay mejor lugar para reunirse con amigos que el cine. Y algunos niños todavía aprecian leer un buen libro.
Para mejorar su expresión escrita en la clase de inglés, se pidió al alumnado de 3º de ESO que escribieran una reseña crítica sobre una película, serie o libro, una habilidad que necesitan perfeccionar especialmente para los próximos exámenes de certificación de inglés. No solo tenían que escribir un breve resumen de la trama, sino que también tenían que analizar los personajes y el escenario. Y lo más importante, tuvieron que hacer una valoración personal de la obra, asumiendo el papel de crítico de cine o libro.
A la tarea se añadió la creación de un atractivo póster del trabajo para compartir con los compañeros y decorar el aula. La clase demostró una amplia gama de gustos, desde novelas románticas para adultos jóvenes hasta películas de dibujos animados y series de suspense. El alumnado realmente se involucró en la tarea y mostró cómo la escritura en inglés puede ser divertida, especialmente si se trata de sus intereses.
