El jugador profesional de baloncesto, americano Shalawn Miller, acompañado de nuestro profesor de educación física Dani Orengo, visitaron nuestro centro para dar una charla inspiradora en inglés para los alumnos de la ESO y 1º de Bachiller. Shalawn reside actualmente en Gandia y juega en Gandía Basket Club. Los estudiantes participaron activamente en una sesión de preguntas y respuestas en el que Shalawn compartió su experiencia como atleta profesional desde sus inicios en Chicago a su tiempo jugando en la Universidad de Massachusetts y, finalmente, su decisión de seguir su carrera profesional en Europa, principalmente en España.
Cuando se le preguntó por qué eligió el baloncesto, Shalawn confesó su gran amor por el deporte y el deseo de dedicarse a algo en lo que realmente disfrutara. Fue lo que le dio la fuerza impulsora en su decisión de ser un jugador de baloncesto.
Los estudiantes tenían curiosidad de saber datos cómo su altura y tamaño de zapatos … .2,3 metros y numero de pie 48,5 !!!! Cuando también se le preguntó sobre sus años en España y su opinión acerca de Gandia, Shalawn explicó que ha vivido y jugado en toda España desde hace 18 años en ciudades como Barcelona, San Sebastián y Palma de Mallorca. Gandia es un lugar especial ya que conoció a su esposa y nació su hija aquí hace 6 meses.
Shalawn y Dani presentaron el American Sports Camp que próximamente tendrá lugar este verano en nuestro centro. Shalawn estará entrenando las tres semanas de campamento dedicados a los deportes americanos de baloncesto, béisbol y fútbol americano, todo en su lenguaje nativo el inglés. Se comprometió a dar su máximo esfuerzo para que los participantes aprendan cómo se juega a estos deportes americanos, practicando Inglés y divertiendose al mismo tiempo. The American professional basketball player Shalawn Miller, accompanied by PE teacher Dani Orengo, visited our center to give an inspirational talk in English to the students of the ESO and 1º Bachiller. Shalawn currently resides in Gandia and plays for Gandia Basket Club. The students actively participated in a question and answer session in which Shalawn shared his experience as a professional athlete from his beginnings in Chicago to his time playing at the University of Massachusetts and eventually his decision to pursue his professional career in Europe, namely in Spain. When asked why he chose basketball, Shalawn confessed that his great love of the sport and desire to make a career of doing what he really enjoyed was the driving force in his decision to be a basketball player. Students were curious to know his height and shoe size….2,3 meters and a size 48.5 shoe!!!! When also asked about his years in Spain and his opinion of Gandia, Shalawn explained that has lived and played throughout Spain for 18 years in cities such as Barcelona, San Sebastian and Palma de Mallorca. Gandia has a special place as it’s where he met his wife and where his daughter was born 6 months ago.
Shalawn and Dani presented the upcoming American Sports Camp that will take place this summer at our center. Shalawn will be coaching the three weeks of camp dedicated to the American sports of Basketball, Baseball and American Football, all in his native English language. He promised to give his maximum effort so that the participants will learn how these American sports are played, practice English and have fun all the while.
